Advent 2021 begins on Sunday, November 28th. All are invited to anticipate the birth of Our Lord Jesus by attending the Ave Maria Parish Retreat led by Monsignor Charles Pope. Our Advent Retreat is an opportunity to come away, rest, and listen to Jesus!
About Monsignor Pope:
Monsignor Charles Pope was born July 10, 1961 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended George Mason University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science in 1984. He worked briefly with the Army Corps of Engineers as a Computer Systems Analyst. His call to the priesthood began from his experience as a Church musician. During his college years he served as an organist, a cantor and a choir director. Through these music ministries he discovered his vocation to the priesthood. He entered Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in 1985 where he earned a Master of Divinity Degree as well as a Master of Arts Degree in Moral Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C. on June 24, 1989.
Monsignor Pope is the current pastor of Holy Comforter – St. Cyprian Catholic Church in Southwest Washington, D.C. From 1997-1999 he conducted a weekly Bible Study in the U.S. Congress. He also conducted a weekly Bible Study at the White House from 2004-2008.
Monsignor Pope's other ongoing assignments include being Archdiocesan Coordinator for the Celebration of the Latin Mass, and Coordinator of Deliverance Ministry. He writes the weekly "Question and Answer Column" for Our Sunday Visitor and also for the monthly Catholic Answers Magazine. He writes regularly for the National Catholic Register, has published books including "The Ten Commandments," "300 Questions and Answers on the Catholic Faith," and "Catholic and Curious." He has conducted numerous retreats, parish missions and teaches at the Institute for Catholic Culture.
